Yes — your dog can board here without ever joining group play. Every new dog completes a one-time assessment, but group play is a separate decision based on what suits your dog. Dogs who don't join a group receive individual free turnout instead: individual outdoor and enrichment time with our staff, rather than time in a play group.
This is individual free turnout and yard time, not a scheduled dog-walking service. Outdoor activities are weather permitting.
Why group play isn't required
Dogs are individuals. Some love a big group of playmates, some would rather have the yard to themselves, and plenty are somewhere in between — all of that is completely normal. Our goal is care that fits the dog in front of us, not fitting every boarding guest into a play group.
Preferring individual time doesn't say anything bad about your dog, and it doesn't change the comfort of the stay: the same climate-controlled kennel, feeding on your dog's own schedule, medication support and outdoor turnout time, weather permitting, apply either way.
What does my dog do instead of group play?
Individual outdoor and enrichment time. Depending on the dog and the day, that can include:
- Free turnout in a fenced outdoor area
- Individual time in the large play yard
- Ball throwing and play
- Sprinkler play, where appropriate
- Sniffing and exploring the large play yard
- One-on-one staff interaction
Outdoor activities are weather permitting. Activities are matched to the individual dog and the day's conditions, so not every dog receives every activity. How the new-dog assessment fits in
Required for every new boarding and daycare dog. It's a one-time 4–10 hour visit ($25 for the first dog, $20 for a second from the same household, $15 for a third) that lets our team get to know your dog and decide on appropriate care.
Optional, and based on suitability and compatibility. Permitted — a dog can board without ever joining group play. A dog does not fail boarding simply because a play group isn't the right fit. Circle Lake Ranch sits on 13 acres at 1134 FM 1463 in Katy, with fenced grass yards and shaded areas. That space is what makes individual turnout practical — a dog can have the yard to itself for sniffing, exploring and ball play. See more photos of the facility.
Preparing for boarding
- Book the one-time assessment before your dog's first stay.
- Send proof of rabies, DHPP/DHLPP and bordetella vaccination before arrival.
- Tell us how your dog does around other dogs, so we can plan individual time from day one.
- Bring your dog's regular food with feeding instructions, plus any medications.
